About webdings.de

Webdings.de is the website of the software projects of Stefan Thesing.
At present these are two packages:

  1. Jannis, a software for simulations of artificial neural nets.
  2. Webdings Tools, a package of useful classes for Java developers.

Both packages are written in Java and were created during a research project preparing my diploma thesis at Department of Education of Hamburg University. Now that both the research project and my diploma thesis are finished, I think the time has come to publish Jannis and the tools Jannis uses, so others can profit from them.

All software published here is free software, meaning that kind of software that often unfortunatley is referred to as "open source software". Many free software packages depend on non-free software (mostly because their developers didn't think about freedom). This especially is a problem with Java, because Sun's core Java libraries and Virtual Machine are non-free software. To avoid this Java-trap all software published here was designed to also run with free Java implementations (GNU Classpath, libgcj and Kaffe). It does not depend on non-free software.
